Book Review: Dear Heart, I Hate You by J. Sterling

Dear Heart I Hate You

Rating: 4.5 Bookworms

Goodreads Synopsis:

I didn’t plan on him.
Or for him.
Or anything that had to do with Cal Donovan from Boston.
Meeting him had been a complete and utter surprise, taking me one hundred percent off guard. I met new people every single day in my line of work and none of them affected me. Wasn’t that the way of things though? You could meet a thousand people and they’d all mean nothing to you. But then you’d meet that one and they suddenly meant everything.

My Thoughts

I was first drawn to this book because of the title and because I tend to be cynical about love. I’m definitely the type of reader that judges a book by its cover and I thought that this one was super pretty. The inside of the book didn’t disappoint either. I think that I really connected with the characters because I can relate with so much of what they’re going through. Jules and Cal are both married to their jobs and don’t have time for relationships not to mention that they live thousands of miles apart.

Jules is an up and coming realtor in California that is on a business trip in Boston when she meets Cal. She is fierce, independent, and sticks to what she believes in. Even in the face of temptation she doesn’t lose sight of who she is. What I like most about her though is that she is willing to sacrifice work/her career (to an extent) for love. For me that takes guts and I’m not entirely sure I would do the same.

Now Cal on the other hand reacted much more like I would which is deny deny deny any feelings and when that doesn’t work run away lol. As someone 100% committed to their career Cal finds it hard to find time for anything other than a short fling. When it’s clear that serious feelings are involved he makes what he thinks is the best decision for both of them. Cal definitely grows the most throughout the book as he tries to sort out what really matters in life.

I loved how I could easily relate to both characters and I feel like this will hold true for many people. The emotions were so real and their romance wasn’t a fairytale the entire time which is why I love it so much. I think many readers are going to fall head over heels with this love story.

About The AuthorJ-Sterling

I got fired from my last job.
It’s true.
I know you’re sitting there thinking, “Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone like you?” And I’d love to give you a good reason, but the truth is that sometimes being all sorts of awesome isn’t fun for other people. They don’t always tend to like it. lol  🙂
So I picked my pride off the floor, bought a laptop and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing stories that meant something to me was a million times better than working my ass off for someone who didn’t really care about anything other than the bottom line.
My soul has never felt more satisfied.

My heart has never been more full.

I’ve never worked so hard in my life, but I love every second of it. I truly do.
It is SO worth it.

All of it.
Every moment.
The journey it took to get to this point- I wouldn’t change a thing.
So thank you for reading, loving and recommending the stories I write to other people. Your word of mouth is my very best friend…. that and your reviews.  🙂

I sincerely appreciate each and every one of you.
