I didn’t plan on him.
Or for him.
Or anything that had to do with Cal Donovan from Boston.
Meeting him had been a complete and utter surprise, taking me one hundred percent off guard. I met new people every single day in my line of work and none of them affected me. Wasn’t that the way of things though? You could meet a thousand people and they’d all mean nothing to you. But then you’d meet that one and they suddenly meant everything.
I was first drawn to this book because of the title
and because I tend to be cynical about love. I’m definitely the type of reader that judges a book by its cover and I thought that this one was super pretty. The inside of the book didn’t disappoint either. I think that I really connected with the characters because I can relate with so much of what they’re going through. Jules and Cal are both married to their jobs and don’t have time for relationships not to mention that they live thousands of miles apart.
Jules is an up and coming realtor in California that is on a business trip in Boston when she meets Cal. She is fierce, independent, and sticks to what she believes in. Even in the face of temptation she doesn’t lose sight of who she is. What I like most about her though is that she is willing to sacrifice work/her career (to an extent) for love. For me that takes guts and I’m not entirely sure I would do the same.
Now Cal on the other hand reacted much more like I would which is deny deny deny any feelings and when that doesn’t work run away lol. As someone 100% committed to their career Cal finds it hard to find time for anything other than a short fling. When it’s clear that serious feelings are involved he makes what he thinks is the best decision for both of them. Cal definitely grows the most throughout the book as he tries to sort out what really matters in life.
I loved how I could easily relate to both characters and I feel like this will hold true for many people. The emotions were so real and their romance wasn’t a fairytale the entire time which is why I love it so much. I think many readers are going to fall head over heels with this love story.
